At many Flemish companies, data from the digital meter goes unused today. According to Ghent-based start-up Ella Energy, a good understanding of that data can lead to a lower bill. That's why the company launched an AI platform that helps Flemish SMEs cut their energy costs.
"There is more energy data available than ever, but too little of it is turned into action. Many SMEs only act once the bill rises. We want to shift energy management from reactive to proactive." — Benedicte Boonefaes, co-founder
How it works
In practice, Ella Energy reads the Fluvius quarter-hourly data accessible through the digital meter. Artificial intelligence looks for patterns and anomalies in consumption, and generative AI translates that into concrete actions. "An SME wants to know what needs to happen today to lower its bill," says co-founder Quinten Rosseel.
"We activate what is already there. In Flanders there are tens of thousands of digital meters doing nothing, while they hold exactly the information to quickly lower energy costs." — Arthur Despiegelaere, Chief Energy Officer
The ambition
Ella Energy currently has around 500 connections to digital meters and aims to grow this to 2,000. After Flanders, the Ghent start-up wants to expand to other European markets where quarter-hourly data is available.
